Born in Beldihi, Odisha, Pratap Lakra is a rising star in Indian hockey. Pratap honed his skills at the Government Sports Hostel in Panposh, Rourkela, under coach Bijay Kumar Lakra. He studied at Birsa Munda Bidyapitha and Nirman Junior College before joining South Central Railway in 2018.
Pratap Lakra captained Hockey Gangpur-Odisha to bronze in the 8th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship and has consistently performed well in national tournaments. His talent shone when he helped Panposh Sports Hostel win the 12th All-India Sardar Balwant Singh Kapur U-17 Schools Hockey Tournament, earning the best player award.
Internationally, Pratap Lakra has represented India in several U-21 tournaments. He was part of the team that won silver at the 9th Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia (2019) and bronze at the 7th Sultan of Johor Cup (2017). He also contributed to India’s gold medal victory at the 5th Asian School Hockey Championship in 2017.
As a defender for the Kalinga Lancers, Pratap brings with him experience, leadership, and natural skills. His journey from Odisha’s sports hostels to international tournaments showcases his dedication and passion for hockey. The Kalinga Lancers are excited to have this young talent in the defensive lineup, and fans can expect outstanding performances from Pratap in the upcoming season.
