Boby Singh Dhami was born in Katiyani village, Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district. Growing up in a small village near the Nepal border, he started training under his uncle’s guidance at just 10 years old, and very soon, was selected into the Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun in 2012. There, under coaches Pankaj Rawat and Suresh Botiyal, Boby refined his skills and began his ascent in the sport.
Slowly, he showcased his incredible speed, striking abilities, and aptitude for circle penetration across various national-level tournaments. His performances at the 2019 Senior Nationals caught the attention of scouts, cementing his place in the junior national camp.
Boby made his junior India debut in 2021 at the FIH Junior World Cup in Bhubaneswar, becoming the first male hockey player from Uttarakhand to represent India. In 2022, his hat-trick in the Sultan of Johor Cup final and brace in the FIH Hockey5s final solidified his reputation as a dependable forward.
The crowning moment came in 2023 when, as vice-captain, Boby led India to gold at the Junior Asia Cup, scoring six goals, including a semi-final hattrick against South Korea.
Boby has now joined the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers in the Hockey India League as a forward. Known for his sharp instincts, speed, and striking precision, he brings immense value to the team, aiming to make a mark on one of the biggest hockey platforms in India.
For Boby Singh Dhami, hockey is more than a sport. It’s a journey of redemption, a way to honor his roots, and a platform to inspire others. As he continues to rise, his focus remains clear: bringing more glory to India and fulfilling his dream of winning the World Cup.
