Krishan Pathak: From Arjuna Award Glory to the Hockey India League Dream
For Krishan Pathak, 2024 has been a year of milestones. The year began with the prestigious Arjuna Award honouring his contributions to Indian hockey, and it will end with him standing in goal for the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, eyeing the Hockey India League (HIL) trophy.
One of the most admired hockey players in the country today, Krishan has captured the hearts of fans not just with his on-field heroics but also through his engaging Instagram presence, where he gives followers a glimpse into his life and passion for the sport.
As the HIL returns after a hiatus, Krishan is eager to don the Lancers’ jersey and bring his best foot forward to the league. With just a month to go, he focuses on contributing to the team’s success.
“Sports is never about individuals; it’s always about the team,” says Krishan. “While receiving the Arjuna Award this year has been a personal highlight, I believe this has been a monumental year for Indian hockey overall—starting with a historic bronze in the Paris Olympics and now the much-anticipated return of the Hockey India League.”
Krishan is especially excited to represent the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, a team deeply rooted in Odisha, a state that shares immense passion and love for hockey. “I am thrilled to be part of this squad. After speaking with the team owners and coaching staff, I can see their immense passion for the sport and vision for the league. While winning the title is our shared goal, the larger mission is to ensure that hockey emerges as the ultimate winner. The Lancers are committed to carrying Odisha’s incredible hockey legacy forward and helping make the sport more popular across the nation,” he adds.
The Vedanta Kalinga Lancers will kick off their HIL campaign against the UP Rudras on October 30, and with Krishan Pathak guarding the net, they’ll be aiming to start the season on a high note.
