Antoine Sylvain Kina was born in Ghent, Belgium. Encouraged by the history of the game in his family, he carved out a path for himself and developed the talent necessary for being an important player.
Antoine Kina began with playing for his local club Gantoise and sharpened his craft as a fledgling professional. He then moved on to Waterloo Ducks in 2017 and gained a wealth of experience playing in
the top Belgian league while maintaining a close relationship with Gantoise. After taking a sabbatical from Gantoise for a year, he became one of the critical pieces of the team’s midfield and attack.
On the international front, Antoine Kina first represented Belgium in the under-21 team at the EuroHockey Junior Championship. His best performance for the junior team came during the 2016 Junior World Cup, where the team was able to earn a silver medal.
Antoine’s chance to shine finally came in the 2018 World Cup when he replaced an injured player during the group matches. He made history by securing the first gold medal for Belgium in the World Finals. Later, in 2019, he proudly participated in the European Championship for the Belgium team which for the first time ended with gold over Spain in the finals with a score of 5 – 0.
The accolades continued as Antoine Kina became one of the stars of Belgium’s golden generation. At the forefront of the Belgian team’s defence, he helped shape the team into a dominant force in the 2020 Tokyo Games which saw Belgium’s first-ever gold medal in hockey.
Antoine’s medal collection has grown over the years as he demonstrated his skills, including winning bronze at the EuroHockey Championships in 2021 and 2023 and a silver medal in the World Cup held in 2023. As a part of the Kalinga Lancers team, Antoine brings a lively verve and strategic edge to the hockey field as a key defender.
In the face of a tough contest, Antoine Kina is known to remain calm and composed, symbolising Belgium’s image of being a professional hockey team. For him, hockey is not only a sport, but rather a realisation of aspirations and tireless work.
